Non-binding explanation in plain language

I also find privacy policies with all their legal jargon annoying, but I still want to run my website without having to be afraid of being sued. In short, let me briefly explain exactly what happens with your data here:

  • My name is Fabian and I run this personal portfolio website privately.
  • The website runs on a server of the Swedish company "Variable Object Assignment (statichost.eu)".
  • For anonymous website analytics and reach measurement, I use the open-source software Ackee, which I host myself on a server at Hetzner in Germany. No cookies are used, and all data is processed in a highly anonymized way. Only basic information is collected, such as: browser used, screen resolution, visited subpages, operating system, and time spent on the page. It is not possible to trace this data back to individual persons (and I don't intend to).
  • When you use the contact form, the data you enter is sent to my Hetzner server and forwarded to me via Telegram so I can respond.
  • When you visit the website, your browser automatically transmits certain information (e.g., IP address) to the servers at Variable Object Assignment and Hetzner. This cannot be prevented, but this information is deleted there immediately.

Processing of contact requests

When you send me a message via the contact form, I process the data you provide (e.g., name, email address, message content) to handle your request and reply.

The message is transmitted to an n8n workflow on my Hetzner server and forwarded to me via Telegram. This involves processing by these services for the purpose of delivering your message.

The legal basis for processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (performance of pre-contractual measures) and/or Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to inquiries).

For security reasons, this site uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the address line of the browser changing from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in your browser’s address bar.

Web analytics with Ackee (own instance, no cookies)

Using Ackee for anonymized analytics

In order to better understand and optimize the use and reach of this website, I use the privacy-friendly open-source analytics software Ackee. Ackee runs on my own server at Hetzner in Germany and is operated solely by me. I have a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with Hetzner in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR.

Ackee operates completely without cookies and does not store any personal or traceable data. The information collected by Ackee (browser type/version, operating system, screen resolution, visited subpages, and duration of the visit) is processed exclusively in anonymized form. Identification of individual visitors is not possible at any time. There is no merging with other data sources.

Data processing is carried out pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR based on my legitimate interest in purely anonymous statistical evaluation of the use of my offering to design and improve the website according to needs.
